Highland Cattle thrive in Tasmania's changeable climate, they love the cold winters with their thick double coat and in the Summer they shed a lot of the long outer coat to enjoy hot summer days as well. Although, they still need shade in the heat and love having a bathe to cool down! Highlanders are excellent foragers and can thrive on tougher to digest grasses than other breeds of cattle.
If you are an owner or breeder of Highland cattle in Tasmania, or you don't own Highlands but just love the breed, consider joining up to the Australian Highland Cattle Society, The Society is a not-for-profit organisation and your membership supports it in its mission to preserve the breed within Australia.
If you would like to find out more about membership packages available and advice on what might suit you, whether you are a hobbyist, non-cattle owner, a Junior cattle handler, commercial breeder or interested in breeding stud animals, please drop us a line through the contact form below - we'd love to chat with you!
